Creativity is Healthy.
Our mission is to guarantee everyone across the United States has the chance to express themselves creatively, increase equal access to creative outlets, and provide guidance to healthcare facilities who have on staff artistic recreational therapists.
Staying for a long time in any hospital can be exhausting and we hope to make people’s time there more enjoyable through visual arts.
Created and Run by Youth. Started in Denver, Steadily Growing.
Artists for Healing began in Denver as a club founded by students at Denver School of the Arts. There were many hospitals within the state of Colorado that possessed art materials but hosted no art classes due to the fact the staff lacked artistic experience. Young artists in Denver provided a solution by becoming the teachers who help guide recreational therapists and patients through art classes. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming hospital space and work with people both young and old because art has no age limit.
A New Generation of Young Artists.
Art has always been associated with loneliness. Something that may often remain true for the young artists of our generation. However, AFH works to change this by allowing young people ages 14-18 to create art alongside their peers and patients in a social setting. Artists for Healing presents a unique opportunity for young people to practice explaining their passion and improve their teaching abilities.
Our Impact.
Art improves someone’s mood, concentration, and creativity. These qualities have helped over one hundred patients across the country; people who are kids, veterans, and Alzheimer patients have access to visual arts.
